About NGORA

The Non-Governmental Organizations Regulatory Authority (NGORA) was established as a statutory Body by an act of Parliament, the NGO (Amendment) Act 2022.
Our Mandate is to register and regulate the operations of all NGOs in Malawi. As a government agency, NGORA is under the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare.

The environment in which we operate is favorable with many prospects and actors such as the academia, private sector and media. Among the many actors we work with, the following are our four key stakeholders: the Government, NGOs, Communities and Donors

Our Duties & Functions

  • Establish and maintain the Register of NGOs, consider and adjudicate upon applications for registry by NGOs and ensure due compliance by NGOs

  • Withhold, or suspend or cancel registration of NGOs in the event of failure or refusal to comply

  • Determine from time to time incentives applicable to NGOs and provide free access to the NGO Register

  • Commission Surveys, Inquiries and Research to any matter affecting NGOs
