The 2021 NGO Sector report was launched at a cocktail hosted by the Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Dr. Patricia Kaliati. The 2021 Report is a summary of information obtained from 307 NGOs who submitted their 2021 annual reports to the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA).

The 2021 report shows that NGORA has 880 NGOs in its database of which 715 are implementing projects on the ground and that it registered 47 new NGOs. The report further shows that there is an improvement in compliance from 37 percent in 2020 to 43 percent in 2021. The records also show that the sector spent MK412 billion in implementing activities and had an estimated income of MK one trillion (US $1 billion). The Report also shows that the sector employed 24, 844 individuals.

Speaking at the event, Kaliati commended the NGOS for the work that they do in complimenting government efforts to develop the country.

“The above-mentioned positives highlights are an indication of the NGO Sectors contribution to national development. Let me therefore take this opportunity to thank NGOs for the tremendous work that they are doing in supporting the Government to improve the livelihood of Malawians at all levels,” she said.

The NGO sector report is produced by the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA) annually to highlight the activities that have been done by NGOs in that particular year across the country. This is the third time that NGORA has produced the report.
