The United Nations Resident Coordinator to Malawi Rebecca Adda-Dontoh has said that the UN is willing to work with the NGO Regulatory Authority to promote NGO work. Adda-Dontoh said this during her courtesy call to NGORA offices today.
The Resident Coordinator further said that she appreciates the challenges faced by NGORA and added that the UN will provide support to ensure that NGORA thrives and that NGOs work in an environment that is supportive to them.
“This is a positive engagement, we are happy that you have given us an opportunity to be here and listened to us. I am here as a Resident Coordinator for Malawi and I will support you to ensure that NGO work is promoted,” she said.
NGORA CEO, Voice Mhone who made a presentation on the role on NGORA, highlighted that NGORA’s role is to register and regulate NGO’s whilst emphasized that regulating the sector means supervision.
“NGORA is not here to stifle the NGOs but to provide a conducive environment for NGOs,” he said.
In his presentation, the CEO also demonstrated that NGORA worked with the National Planning Commission on developing and presenting the Voluntary National Review Report on progress to SDGs. The UN Resident Representative was pleased to note that NGORA formed part of the delegation that presented the historic report at global level.
