NGO Regulatory Authority Chief Executive Officer Edward Chileka Banda has said partnerships between local and international NGOs will promote development in the NGO sector. He made the remarks on Friday during breakfast meeting with international NGOs at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.
Banda said they are looking at how effective partnership would promote development in the sector and improve service delivery in the communities.
“We are looking at scenarios where they must be effective partnership among local and international NGOs, they have been concerns that local NGOs are being left behind,” he said.
He added that government recognises NGOs as a key sector as it complements government efforts in promoting development in the country.
On her part Self Help Africa Country Director Kate Hartley-Louis who is also co-chair of INGO forum said NGOs need to be accountable to the government, donors and the community they serve.
“As NGOs we have to be responsible for we are the custodians of the funds, they need to the source and what we do with that money,” she said.
She also said partnerships are important among NGOs to enhance collaboration and communication in the NGO sector.
