The Ministry of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare in collaboration with the NGO Regulatory Authority and CONGOMA is pleased to announce the opening of nominations for the upcoming NGO Excellence Awards which will be held hosted by the State President of the Republic of Malawi at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre on the 11th October 2024. These awards aim to recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that have made a significant impact in various areas of development in the 2023-2024 Financial Year. We invite you to nominate deserving organizations for the following award categories:

1. Compliance Category

This award recognizes NGOs that demonstrate exceptional adherence to regulatory requirements. Nominees should exemplify best practices in registration, reporting, and licensing, ensuring full compliance with legal and statutory obligations (NGORA to Nominate based on annual reports).

2. Transparent NGO

This award honors NGOs that exemplify transparency in their operations. Nominees should be NGOs that actively share their budgets with stakeholders, including line ministries and local councils, and engage in joint monitoring and reporting to foster accountability and trust, line Ministries and District councils are encouraged to submit nominations.

3. Policy Alignment

This award is for NGOs whose projects are closely aligned with national and global development policies, such as Malawi 2063, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and District Development Plans (DDPs). Nominees should demonstrate a strong commitment to policy-driven initiatives that contribute to broader development goals Line Ministries and District councils are encouraged to submit nominations.

4. Interventions in Hard-to-Reach Areas

This award recognizes NGOs that have gone above and beyond to deliver essential services and interventions in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Nominees should show innovation, resilience, and dedication in reaching underserved communities, District councils are encouraged to submit nominations.

5. Community Empowerment

This award honors NGOs that empower communities by helping beneficiaries graduate from aid dependency and sustain programs independently. Nominees should demonstrate a strong impact on enhancing the self-reliance and resilience of communities, District Councils are encouraged to submit nominations.

6. NGOs Promoting Girl Education

This award recognizes NGOs that have made significant contributions to promoting education for vulnerable girls, including those who are poor, disabled, or otherwise marginalized. Nominees should have a proven track record of enhancing access to education and improving outcomes for these girls Ministries and NGOs promoting girl education.

7. NGO in Health

This award honors NGOs that have made a significant impact on health service delivery, either through provision of access to health services in hospitals or mobile clinics. Nominees should demonstrate excellence in improving health outcomes for communities Ministry of Health, NGOs in Health, and MHEN.

8. NGOs Promoting Food Security

This award recognizes NGOs that have significantly contributed to enhancing food security through sustainable agricultural practices, nutritional programs, or emergency food relief. Nominees should demonstrate effective strategies in combating hunger and promoting food resilience Ministry of Agriculture, NGOs in Agriculture and CSANET.

9. Localization Agenda Champion

This award honors NGOs that are champions of the localization agenda by investing in the capacity of local players. Nominees should demonstrate a strong commitment to building local expertise and leadership to drive sustainable development all NGOs through CONGOMA.

Submission Guidelines:

To nominate an NGO, please submit the following details to nominations@ngora.mw;

  1. Name of NGO
  2. Nomination Category
  3. NGO’s target population
  4. Project implementation area (T/A and District)
  5. Key Achievements

Nomination Requirements:

Nominated NGOs will be required to submit the following;

  1. A copy of Registration Certificate and a valid license
  2. A recommendation letter from at least one District Council (if not nominated by District Councils)
  3. Endorsement letter from line Ministries (if not nominated by line Ministry)
  4. Contacts of at least three beneficiaries

Deadline:

All nominations must be submitted by 6th September 2024.
